Does F-PROT Antivirus provide protection against spyware/adware?
As F-PROT Antivirus is by its nature an antivirus product, it focuses on viral threats such as viruses, worms, trojans and harmful spyware. In addition F-PROT Antivirus does provide partial protection for your computer against some instances of spyware and adware, specifically any unwanted technologies that could potentially impair the security of your computer. These include a small subset of spyware (those that harm or compromise the security of your computer), unauthorized keyloggers, harmful adware, backdoors, botnets, droneware, unauthorized dialers, hijackers, rootkits, and hacker tools (including port scanners). Version 6 of F-PROT Antivirus for Windows can detect and report these unwanted applications. As these applications are not viruses, F-PROT Antivirus for Windows will not remove them. They can be removed from your computer using the Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel. To set F-PROT Antivirus to report possible unwanted applications: Run F-PROT Antivirus Click on Virus scanners Under Advanced, select Settings Check Report possible unwanted applications For complete spyware/adware protection, we recommend installing dedicated spyware/adware software as an addition to F-PROT Antivirus. Some popular spyware/adware software packages that work well with F-PROT Antivirus can be found at the following websites: Spybot Search & Destroy Windows Defender Ad-aware Spy Sweeper SpywareBlaster These programs are distributed free of charge for personal users.

Does F-PROT Antivirus support pop-up blocking?
F-PROT Antivirus does not offer a pop-up blocker functionality. For Windows XP users: You can now download and install Service Pack 3 for Windows XP. Included in Service Pack 3 is a pop-up blocker for Internet Explorer. When you install Service Pack 3, the pop-up blocker is installed and activated by default. If you wish to change the default pop-up blocker settings, simply run Internet Explorer and find "Pop-up Blocker". From that menu you should be able to find the Pop-up Blocker Settings: You will know that the pop-up blocker works by the yellow bar that appears whenever Internet Explorer has blocked a pop-up. By right-clicking the bar, you can easily allow pop-up for the page you are viewing. For non-Windows XP users: If you are not using Windows XP then a helpful tool you can download is the Google Toolbar that includes a pop-up blocker. You can download Google Toolbar* from this web page. For further information, see Google Toolbar's pop-up blocker.

How do I install F-PROT on my LAN pc's so all pcs only update via a central F-PROT server?
On this website, please navigate to the Download Centre link, and download the F-PROT LAN Setup Guide for detailed instructions. Here is a summary of a common LAN install: In a LAN setup, all F-PROT clients connect to a central LAN pc, which in turn connects to the internet for F-PROT daily signature and downloads these only once, as opposed to all pc's downloading the same file over the internet. This minimises bandwidth consumption, but this setup also allows the administrator to distribute settings to all clients from a central source. For a LAN setup you should download the following three files from our www.f-prot.co.za site, under the Download Centre menu(http://www.f-prot.co.za/category.aspx?categoryID=8) 1) http://www.ljp.co.za/fprot/fpav-windows-x86-hc-en-6.0.9.1.msi - This is the 32bit version which will pull the daily signature updates from the internet directly. This version will be setup as the central download server and all settings on this client will replicate to the machines connecting to it from the LAN. 2) http://www.ljp.co.za/fprot/fpav-windows-x86-sc-en-6.0.9.1.msi - This is the LAN version which will pull the daily signature updates from the central download server in (1) thus elimating the need for internet downloads for your client pcs. 3) http://www.ljp.co.za/fprot/setup_guide.pdf - This is the LAN setup Guide with specific details for customising your installation. From here the setup is fairly simple in that once the internet version is installed, all you need to do is share the updates folder with read-only access(detailed in the attached setup guide). At this point the rest of your clients machines can be loaded with the LAN version from (2) above, and you need to set the update path within the program to point to the shared update folder on the central server. For info - A batch file can be setup using switches from the F-PROT installation program, thus when distributing over the LAN, all client installs are exact. This setup ensures all the LAN pcs will pull the daily signature updates from the locally shared folder. They will also pull their settings from the central pc, thus allowing administrators to standardise their install. The F-PROT LAN Tool is available for download from the Download Centre, for setting customised passwords. As guideline, the first update which F-PROT downloads is a current virus signature database. This is quite large at approx. 30megs of signatures, however after the first download the daily updates are quite small (<1Meg) as they are differential updates to the database. These updates happen automatically and require no user intervention. The most important thing to remeber is to have removed all other antivirus software from the machines you are installing F-PROT onto. The other pre-requisite is for the installation only, you need to have Administrator priviledges on the machine.
